Evolution Autopilot
The Type 1
Hydraulic Pump is intended to operate the boat’s steering
mechanism as part of a Raymarine autopilot system. It is
primarily designed for use on boats with an existing
hydraulic steering system. Alternatively, you can use this
pump on a boat with mechanical steering in conjunction with
a secondary steering ram.
The hydraulic pump contains a precision gear pump and a
check valve driven by a servo motor.

No calibration required!
Engineered for simplicity, Evolution autopilots eliminate
the need for complicated set up and calibration. Once
Evolution is installed, getting started is as easy as
switching the autopilot on.
Thanks to the
intelligent EV sensor core, the autopilot automatically
evolves and adapts to your vessel’s steering
characteristics without any user adjustments.
Evolution AI™
The culmination of Raymarine’s 30 years of autopilot
expertise, FLIR Systems research and development, and
advanced aerospace guidance technology, Evolution AI™
control algorithms deliver a new level of accurate
autopilot control.
This innovative breakthrough in autopilot
intelligence enables Evolution autopilots to perceive
their environment and then instantly calculate and
evolve steering commands to maximise performance. The
result is precise and confident course keeping,
regardless of vessel speed or sea conditions.

The EV Sensor Core
At the centre of every Evolution system is the
intelligent EV sensor core, a 9-axis sensor that monitors
vessel motion in all three dimensions. The innovative EV
sensor core combines advanced solid-state sensors with the
Evolution autopilot processor into a single easy-to-install
housing.
Mount the EV sensor core above or below decks, the rugged
enclosure is fully sealed and built to IPX6 and IPX7
waterproofing and submersion standards.
EV Sensor Core Benefits
- Precision monitoring of heading, pitch, roll, and yaw
allowing the autopilot to evolve instantly as sea
conditions and vessel dynamics change.
- Flexible installation options. Mount above or below
deck.
- Simple SeaTalkng
connectivity to the control head and ACU.
- Solid state sensor technology delivers dynamic
accuracy to within 2 degrees in all conditions.
- Auto-compensation for on board magnetic fields and
reliable heading accuracy in the northern and southern
extremes.
- Fast and reliable heading data for MARPA, radar
overlay, and heading modes on Raymarine multifunction
displays.
Autopilot Control Unit (ACU)
The rugged ACU (Actuator Control Unit) delivers reliable
autopilot drive power and also provides power to the SeaTalk
ng
bus. Choose the ACU that fits your steering system type:

Your Evolution Autopilot System
EV-1 Systems with Raymarine
Drives
The EV-1 is designed for Evolution
mechanical and hydraulic autopilot systems. SeaTalkng
networking enables a single cable connection for power
and data to the Evolution ACU (actuator control unit)
and extended SeaTalkng and NMEA2000 networks.
|
|
EV-2 for Steer-By-Wire
Propulsion
Designed for the latest drive-by-wire
steering system, the EV-2 connects directly to
Raymarine’s SeaTalk
ng
bus and also features a dedicated CAN Bus port for
direct connection to steer-by-wire steering systems like
ZF Pod Drives, Volvo IPS* and Teleflex Optimus systems.
The single CAN Bus connection to the EV-2 eliminates the
need for an ACU, further simplifying installation.

p70 and p70R Autopilot Control Heads
Complete your Evolution autopilot system with a p70 or
p70R autopilot control. The p70 and p70R control heads
feature vibrant colour displays and are powered by
Raymarine’s intuitive LightHouse user interface.
LightHouse organises all options into simple menu
structures and with Evolution’s quick setup process you will
be up and running in minutes.
Designed for sailing yachts, the p70 offers simple 1 and 10
degree direct course change push buttons.
The p70R features a rotary dial control for power
boaters. Use the rotary dial for menu and course changes or
activate power steer mode and steer manually right from the
p70R.

Raymarine Hydraulic Steering Systems
Raymarine Evolution pilots connect to hydraulic steering
systems using a rugged hydraulic pump matched to the capacity of the
hydraulic steering system.
If your system is hydraulic...
You'll need to find out the size (in cc) of the hydraulic cylinder ram(s)
mounted to the rudder or inboard engined boats, or to the drive unit on
outboard engined boats. Your steering system documentation will have this
information.
|
Autopilot Tip
If you cannot find the ram size on your steering system documentation,
you can look on the cylinder ram itself for the brand and model number. Once
you have the number use our
hydraulic cylinder ram cross-reference guide
to determine which hydraulic autopilot pump is compatible with your
vessel's hydraulic steering system.

Notes:
- In some systems with dual steering rams in parallel, cylinder capacity
is the total of both rams. Rams in series only require single capacity
valve. Hydraulic steering systems with steering rams over 500cc require
our larger constant running pump used in conjunction with the relevant ACU
- contact Raymarine for details.
- An authorised Raymarine dealer is best suited to installing a
hydraulic autopilot system.
- Type 0.5 suitable for Volvo D4/D6 Sterndrive applications
